We are currently working on a project to enhance the visitors knowledge of the workings of the pumping station.
This will open up the basement area and allow you to see the massive pipework and valves that connected us with Shrewsbury's sewage system. We no longer have sewage in the building so you can rest assured that the "smellivision" will not take your breath away!
As a voluntary organisation we have relied on sponsorship for both monetary and material supplies. We cannot thank our sponsors enough for the assistance provided. So far the following companies have assisted us with this project:- Schlumberger Water Services - HSS Hire Shops - Huws Gray Building Materials Centre.
To open the basement we have to build a path through the old flower bed and re-install a door which was bricked up in the 1970's or possibly earlier. The soil level of the garden is much higher than the surrounding paths so there have been many many journey's to the rear of the site with wheel barrow loads of soil and still more to go! The soil is being used to form a base around the newly positioned Abbey Foregate station crane and level out the far end of the site where we are building a new retaining wall.
When we have installed the access door there is almost 50 years worth of cleaning to do down there! We hope to get the first visitors on conducted tours either late in 2016 or 2017.
Below is a picture diary of the site and the work in progress.
